Resignation of Councillors from AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has faced a significant blow in Delhi, with 15 of its councillors resigning. Mukesh Goyal, the former leader of the house, has announced the formation of a new political entity named the Indraprastha Development Party. He claims that 13 councillors have joined him in this new venture, and he suggested that members from both Congress and BJP might also align with them.

Concerns Raised by Mukesh Goyal

Goyal expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that although AAP came to power with a full majority, the party merely issued orders without listening to its members. He criticized the leadership for focusing solely on blaming the opposition, claiming he has never witnessed such a situation in his 26 years as a councillor.

Promises Unfulfilled

He further mentioned that councillors were misled with promises of receiving one lakh rupees, which have yet to materialize. With only two years left in their term, he fears that their work will remain unfulfilled. Goyal has officially resigned from AAP and is optimistic about attracting several councillors from BJP and Congress to his new party.

AAP's Decision on Mayoral Elections

In a related development, AAP announced that it would not contest the mayoral elections scheduled for April 25. The party cited a lack of sufficient numbers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as the reason, indicating that the BJP holds the majority. Saurabh Bhardwaj, the president of AAP Delhi, confirmed that they have decided not to field a candidate for the mayoral position this time, suggesting that the BJP should choose its own mayor and govern Delhi without excuses.

Recent Developments in MCD

In the recent MCD elections, BJP's Raja Iqbal Singh was elected as the new mayor of Delhi.
