Suniel Shetty has come under fire for recent comments about his daughter Athiya Shetty's childbirth experience. While speaking about her decision to opt for a natural delivery, the actor sparked criticism for drawing comparisons between vaginal births and C-sections, a topic that continues to divide opinions online.
Suniel Shetty praises daughter Athiya for opting for normal delivery
In a recent interview with News18, the veteran actor said, "In a world where everybody wants the comfort of having a caesarean baby, she chose not to do that and had a natural delivery. I remember how every nurse and pediatrician in the hospital said that it's unbelievable how she went through the whole process."
He added, "That hit me as a father. I was like, 'Wow, she's ready!' Athiya was very, very strong to do that."
Netizens slams Suniel for his comment
His statement was intended as praise for Athiya's strength, but many social media users felt his wording implied that a vaginal delivery is somehow more courageous or commendable than a C-section-something that didn't go down well.
Comments began pouring in on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), with users slamming the underlying message in Shetty's words. "Comfort of C-section! That's new!" one user wrote sarcastically. Another pointed out, "What's there to be proud [of]? This way or that way, the baby should be safe, the mother should be safe. Birth journey is not about C-sec or natural... Shame on people who still think this."
Another comment read, "Only a man would have the audacity to think a C-section is a comfort."
While many acknowledged that Shetty was expressing pride and admiration for his daughter's resilience, the choice of words clearly didn't sit well with a large section of the audience.
