Usually, red is all you can see as far as your eyes go at the Chinnaswamy in an IPL match but today (17 May) is something different. Thousands of fans have turned up but it is something different as the fans have assembled in the white jerseys with "Virat 18" printed on their backs as a special tribute to their beloved who has startled them a few days back with an announcement no one saw coming.
On May 12, Virat Kohli announced his retirement from test cricket and the fans have since been left wanting for more from India's test cap number 269. Fans planned for an heartfelt tribute to Kohli ahead of the RCB vs KKR clash which was scheduled to kick-off the remainder of the IPL after it got suspended on May 9 due to the tensions between India and Pakistan.

What started as a sincere request soon spread like wildfire and in no time it became the talk of the town, even commentator Harsha Bhogle tweeted using his X account that if the fans pull it off then it will be a sight for ages.
Soon after, there were queues of people lining up to buy the white jerseys being sold in huge numbers outside Chinnaswamy Stadium. Not only on match day but also on the days leading up to the match, hundreds and hundreds of white jerseys were sold outside the stadium. Also, there were people passionately speaking about how they wanted to give a tribute to him and even asking him to take back his retirement.
Inside the stadium, it was not the usual red but the white for Kohli by his fans which was seen in large sections of the stands even with the harsh rains not allowing the match to start by the time this article has been written.
While the fans waited for the rain to ease off, Virat Kohli's test stats were also displayed on the big screen which brought about a big cheer from the fans seeing the man in whites.
