Assault on Police Constable During Traffic Duty in Naigaon

Incident Overview

In the early hours of May 16, 2025, a police constable was attacked while performing his duties in Naigaon (East). The incident occurred around 12:40 am near Prince Dhaba, where the officer was addressing a traffic issue caused by improperly parked heavy dumpers.


Details of the Attack

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Constable Somnath Vikram Bodkhe requested the drivers of two dumpers to relocate their vehicles, which escalated into a violent altercation involving multiple individuals. The situation worsened when one of the drivers, Sunil Rghunath Rathod, along with another person, Karan Mahadev Chavan, allegedly assaulted Constable Bodkhe.


Nature of the Assault

Rathod is accused of tearing the constable's uniform and biting his right arm. Additional individuals reportedly joined the attack, including Savita Rathod, Rutik Rathod, Anil Rathod, Pravin Rathod, Kushal Chavan, Pooja Kushal Chavan, and Rekha Apparao Chavan.


Legal Actions and Investigation

The incident has been documented under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including assaulting a public servant, harassment, illegal assembly, and obstructing duty. As of now, no arrests have been made. The investigation is being led by Sub-Inspector Roshan Devre and supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police Navnath Ghogare. Authorities are pursuing charges against the nine identified suspects, along with two to three unidentified individuals involved in the incident.


Motivation Behind the Attack

The suspects are believed to have formed an illegal group aimed at hindering the officer's duties. Reports indicate that this group attempted to intimidate the officers, threatening their safety and obstructing government operations, thereby endangering public welfare.
