Mason Greenwood has set any suggestions he could make a shock Premier League return this summer on fire by insisting he wants to stay at Marseille. The former Manchester United forward, said to be keen on moving back to England with his family, is reportedly the subject of interest from two Prem clubs.

Marseille are claimed to be willing to cash in and move Greenwood on within the next two seasons as they aim to spin a profit. The Ligue 1 giants recruited him for £27million last summer, ending his affiliation with United after he had spent a year away on loan at Getafe.

However, Greenwood has asserted his plans to remain at Marseille next term after helping the club qualify for the Champions League.

"I hope to be here next year for the Champions League," Greenwood explained in a recent press conference.

"All the other players tell me that the stadium is something special. I think it's been a very positive season, we've reached our objective."

He added: "I feel at home here. I recently had a baby here with my girlfriend.

"Not a lot of people get to experience that kind of thing here, and with all my teammates and coaches, I would like to thank them all."

United are on the verge of a potential reunion with Greenwood ahead of Wednesday's Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

If the Red Devils triumph in Bilbao, they will earn Champions League qualification and could meet their academy graduate in Europe's premier competition next term.

Greenwood has scored 19 goals in 33 league games this season, a tally only bettered by Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembele's 21.

Despite his fruitful first campaign in France, he has faced some criticism from supporters and his manager, Roberto De Zerbi, over his work rate.

Earlier this season, De Zerbi said: "No one can have more respect for him than I do. But that doesn't change anything. I expect more from him. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough.

"If he wants to achieve his ambition of becoming a champion, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined."

Greenwood was linked with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and Barcelona after impressing throughout his return season at Getafe.

Other European heavyweights have also been credited with an interest, which should intensify if he improves further in his likely second campaign at Marseille.
