America Former President Donald Trump has urged Apple’s CEO Tim Cook to shift the company’s manufacturing units to the US. However, Apple has issued a statement clarifying that it will continue production in India. But in the meantime, a shocking report of Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) has come to light, which threatened the huge economic losses and millions of jobs in India when Apple shifted to America.
According to GTRI reports, Apple costs about $ 30 (about ₹ 2,500) per unit from final assembly of premium products like iPhone in India. Under the PLI scheme of the Government of India, this cost decreases even further. At the same time, Apple sells the same iPhone for $ 1000 (more than ₹ 83,000) in the US. Despite this, India gets a share of the same $ 30.
GTRI founder Ajay Srivastava said, “India only performs final assembly for Apple. If this unit is shifted to America, then firstly entry-level workers will have a direct impact on jobs.”
The report also states that if Apple leaves India, India can compensate for this loss by increasing its capacity in sectors such as semiconductor, battery technology and display construction.
