Renowned dancer and women’s rights activist Sheema Kermani has strongly criticized the increasing portrayal of immoral content in Pakistani television dramas.

Speaking as a guest of honor at a recent event, Kermani remarked that men today have become worse compared to the past. She attributed this change to the TV programs and news content that boys grew up watching. “During the era of dictatorship, patriarchal ideologies took deeper root, making men more aggressive and regressive,” she said.

Lashing out at the content of current dramas, Kermani said, “Every drama seems to promote extramarital relationships, which is far from the reality of our society. Not every man wants a second wife.” She further criticized the constant negative portrayal of mothers-in-law, stating, “Not all mothers-in-law are evil; this depiction is far from the truth.”

An active voice for women’s rights since the 1970s, Sheema Kermani emphasized that the media should have a positive impact on society instead of promoting harmful attitudes. She stressed, “Drama creators must take responsibility and produce content that reflects our cultural and moral values.”

Her comments come at a time when there is growing concern over the glorification of immoral relationships and negative characters in Pakistani dramas. The debate has also gained traction on social media, with many users expressing support for Kermani’s stance.
