Mumbai: Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected in Mumbai and the surrounding areas today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The financial city has been battered by pre-monsoon rains, and the meteorological service has issued a yellow notice that will last until May 22 at the latest, unless today.

While lightning, thunderstorms, and moderate rain have been warned for Thane and Raigad districts in Maharashtra, IMD has forecast moderate rain and thundershower warnings for Mumbai and Palghar districts.

Over the next four days, IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning, mild to moderate rainfall, and gusty gusts (40–50 kmph) in isolated areas of Mumbai and Palghar.

Some locations in Maharashtra, such as Kolhapur, Satara, Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Nasik, are expected to see thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rain today, with gusts of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.

Some locations in the South Konkan-Goa and Marathwada districts are expected to see thunderstorms with lightning, intense rain, and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai. According to the meteorological department, on May 21 and 22, there will be isolated areas of severe to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds (50–60 kmph) in Ratnagiri.

In certain areas of the North Konkan, thunderstorms with lightning, mild to moderate rain, and gusts of 40 to 50 kmph are probable.

Rainfall fell on Saturday morning in a number of Mumbai locations, providing inhabitants some much-needed respite from the city’s oppressive humidity. A partly overcast sky with the potential for light showers throughout the day is the prediction from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD predicts that the city will have mild to moderate rainfall. Over the last several days, pre-monsoon rains have been falling in Mumbai.

Over the following five days, the IMD has forecast further thunderstorms and rains in a number of the nation’s regions.

IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava told ANI on Friday that during the next five days, southern India—particularly the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka—will have heavy rains, thunderstorms, and windy conditions.
