The rising coronavirus cases once again in many parts of the world, especially in Asian countries (such as Hong Kong and Singapore), have raised concerns for health experts. Recent reports show that there has been a sharp increase in coronavirus cases here for the last few weeks. Not only are the cases of coronavirus infection increasing, but the number of patients admitted to hospitals has also increased in many places.
At present, no new variant has been blamed for these increasing cases. Experts say that over time, the immunity created by the vaccine in people is decreasing, due to which the effect of the virus is being seen once again.
As a precaution, health experts have advised high-risk people in the affected areas to take a booster vaccine of corona, so that additional protection can be developed in the body. Earlier, many health organizations have also been advising people over the age of 65 to take the annual COVID vaccine just like the flu.
Increasing coronavirus infection in Southeast Asia
Given the new wave of COVID-19 in many parts of Southeast Asia, many types of fear are being seen in the minds of the people. Is this virus going to wreak havoc once again? Should we all start taking measures again to prevent COVID-19 in the same way as before?
According to a Bloomberg report, cities like Hong Kong and Singapore are seeing an increase in cases of coronavirus along with hospitalizations and even deaths. This is the first major increase in almost a year.
Given the increasing dangers in many countries, health organizations have alerted all people.
FDA approves another new vaccine
Amid the increasing risks of the coronavirus, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new vaccine from Novavax, although some conditions have also been placed on it. These vaccines will be given only to those people who are suitable for them.
According to the approval letter, the vaccine called Nuvaxovid can be used for persons aged 65 years and above and those between 12 and 64 years who have at least one underlying health problem (comorbidity). These conditions increase the risk of developing serious illness due to COVID-19 infection.
Infection is increasing due to the LP.8.1 variant.
Dr. Mark E. Rupp, an infectious disease specialist at US-based Nebraska Medicine, says, currently the most prominent variant in many parts of the world, including America, is LP.8.1, which has 70% of the cases. It is followed by XFC, which has 9% of the cases. The original variant of Omicron is now almost over, and at present, only cases of its sub-variants are being seen.
Health experts say that although these variants are not very dangerous, the virus is spreading more easily due to the weakening immunity of people over time.
Infection increased due to this variant in April.
Earlier in April, cases of infection were also seen increasing in many parts of the world due to the LP.8.1 variant. There were reports of increasing infection due to this variant of coronavirus in many cities of Australia.
The World Health Organization (WHO) classified it as a 'variant under monitoring' in January given the significant increase of LP.8.1 globally. However, the global health agency believed that it is not very dangerous or worrisome. Since it is an updated version of a variant of Omicron, the risk of getting severe infection due to it is low.
