The Government of India has recently launched an e-passport in the country. The purpose of launching this passport equipped with RFID technology and chip is to curb fake passports. If you have an old passport, then you know how you can upgrade it to an e-passport from your smartphone sitting at home.

What is an e-passport?

An e-passport looks similar to a normal passport, but many technical features have been included in it. It has a chip with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, which is inside the passport cover. The applicant's complete personal information and biometric details are safe in this chip.

The security of this chip has been linked to the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) system, so that no one can steal the data. There is a yellow symbol on the e-passport, which can be identified. In the future, it will be almost impossible to make fake passports through it.

How to apply for an e-passport from a mobile
Step 1: First of all, go to passportindia.gov.in and register yourself.
Step 2: After registration, log in to the portal with your login ID.
Step 3: Click on the "Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport" option.
Step 4: If you are making a passport for the first time, then choose the "Fresh" option. If you already have a passport and want to upgrade it to an e-passport, then go to the "Reissue" option.
Step 5: Fill in all the required information and pay the fee online. After payment, your appointment will be booked. Download and save the application receipt.
Step 6: On the scheduled date, go to the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Regional Passport Office (RPO) and submit your documents. After the process is completed, your e-passport will be sent to your address.
Step 6: Benefits of e-passport

Both security and convenience: The chip provided in it will identify you immediately, and there will be no scope for fake passports.

Less waiting, faster processing: Time will be saved at the airport, because your information will come into the system as soon as the passport is scanned.

Step for the future: Currently, this facility is for foreign travel, but in the coming time, the e-passport can take the form of a common passport.
