Agra Metro Update: The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) installed the first pier cap on the second corridor at Agra Cantt on Saturday, marking a significant step towards the Agra Metro’s operation. Since the metro line will link two important parts of the city, Agra Cantt and Kalindi Vihar, thousands of commuters would benefit from a considerable reduction in travel time and traffic congestion, according to the authorities.

The much-anticipated Agra metro’s second corridor would have 14 elevated stations, according to a statement made by the UPMRC earlier this month. It said that all of the metro stations are now being built, with completion anticipated by the middle of 2026. Residents will benefit from the second corridor, according to the authority, as it will shorten travel times and pass through some of the city’s most important locations.

At the casting yard in Dauki, precast technology is being used to build the pier tops. Each pier top has dimensions of 9.6 meters by 2.9 meters by 1.8 meters and weighs 65 tons. A 400-ton crane is needed to put these covers, according to a statement from the authority.

The Agra metro’s first corridor is being constructed between Taj East Gate and Sikandara, the government said. Seven metro stations are being constructed underground, while six are raised along the route. It said that a 6-kilometer stretch is currently open to encourage city tourism. The stretch encourages visitors to use public transit by connecting important historical attractions like the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

They said that four Agra Metro subterranean stations have already undergone testing runs, and that the full operation is anticipated to start by December of this year.
