The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have commenced a significant military operation in the Gaza Strip, named 'Gideon’s Chariots.' This initiative involves extensive assaults and troop mobilization aimed at capturing critical regions within Gaza. The primary goals of this operation include securing the release of hostages and neutralizing Hamas. IDF Spokesperson Lt Col Nadav Shoshani outlined the main objectives of Operation Gideon’s Chariots in a video message released on Monday.
Lt Col Shoshani stated that IDF ground forces have intensified their efforts in both Northern and Southern Gaza. He emphasized, 'Following the tragic events of October 7th, our mission is unequivocal: to bring our hostages back home and dismantle Hamas's military and governance structures.'
In addition to the video, Shoshani shared on social media, 'The start of Operation Gideon’s Chariots: Operating to free our hostages, stop Hamas, and protect our people.'
Shoshani detailed four key objectives for the Gideon’s Chariots mission:
a) Provide advance warnings to civilians not involved in the conflict to ensure their safety
b) Establish control over the battlefield
c) Safeguard Israeli civilians
d) Dismantle the leadership and operational capabilities of Hamas.
The IDF has confirmed that troops have initiated extensive ground operations across both northern and southern Gaza as part of Operation Gideon’s Chariots. The IDF's statement noted, 'In the past week, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) has executed a series of preliminary strikes, targeting over 670 Hamas installations throughout Gaza to disrupt enemy preparations and support ground forces.' The IAF continues to provide ongoing assistance to troops engaged in Gaza.
Previously, reports indicated that Israeli officials believe Operation Gideon’s Chariots aims to 'conquer' Gaza and maintain control over the territory. This strategy includes relocating the Palestinian civilian population towards the southern part of the Strip, targeting Hamas, and ensuring that the terror group does not seize control of humanitarian aid supplies.
