In a significant move toward enhancing urban mobility and supporting India’s digital public infrastructure, Uber on Monday launched metro ticketing for Delhi Metro directly within its app. The new feature is powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), making Delhi the first city to go live under this initiative. The integration enables Uber users in the national capital to plan their metro trips, purchase QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit updates—all from the same app.
Uber’s latest development marks its first public transport integration using India’s digital commerce backbone—ONDC. The feature allows a seamless end-to-end travel experience, reducing friction between private and public mobility options. Users will no longer need to switch between apps or stand in queues to access metro services.
“This launch is a tangible realization of our commitment to make urban mobility more inclusive, sustainable, and seamlessly connected,” Uber said in an official release. The announcement follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 during CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s India visit, where Uber pledged to support and integrate with ONDC’s open, interoperable digital infrastructure.
According to Uber, metro ticketing is just the beginning. The company plans to expand the feature to three additional Indian cities in 2025. Beyond metro access, Uber will soon introduce B2B Logistics solutions via the ONDC platform, allowing businesses to use Uber’s extensive delivery network for on-demand logistics services—without needing to maintain their own fleet.
This new logistics capability aims to unify India’s fragmented logistics ecosystem, offering small and large enterprises a reliable and scalable transport solution.
Praveen Neppalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer at Uber, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative, stating, “India has taken an impressive leap in building population-scale technology through Digital Public Infrastructure like ONDC. We are thrilled to integrate with them and take a step closer to becoming a one-stop shop for all mobility needs.”
Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO of ONDC, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Uber joining the ONDC Network is a major milestone in expanding access to trusted, interoperable digital infrastructure. This collaboration paves the way for future innovation—ranging from seamless multimodal journeys to integrated logistics systems.”
The partnership reflects Uber’s growing commitment to align with India’s evolving mobility and commerce landscape. By embedding metro ticketing and logistics within its ecosystem, Uber is not only enhancing user convenience but also reinforcing the importance of interoperable public infrastructure.
With Delhi leading the rollout, commuters can now book their rides and metro tickets, check real-time metro schedules, and navigate multi-modal routes—all without leaving the Uber app. As digital transformation reshapes public transport, this integration is poised to serve as a blueprint for similar global partnerships in the future.
