Haryana: Kaithal student arrested for sharing sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence agencies

Kaithal: Kaithal Superintendent of Police (SP), Astha Modi, said on Monday that Devendra Singh, a 25-year-old resident of Kaithal (Haryana), had been taken into custody for allegedly disclosing confidential information to Pakistani intelligence agents. The accused is now enrolled in a Patiala college as a first-year MA student.

According to Kaithal SP Astha Modi, Devendra had communication with four Pakistani intelligence officers—three males and one woman. “He visited Pakistan in November of last year and stayed in close communication with them ever since. “He has acknowledged that he made a video close to the Patiala cantonment area and sent it to them,” SP Modi added.

Devendra is being held by the police for three days. After searching his home, police found two electronic gadgets. About 300 GB of data was retrieved from these devices by a cyber forensic lab, and it is now undergoing analysis.

His financial accounts are also being forensically audited. According to the police, the matter is still being investigated.

In another situation, Odisha police are looking into Jyoti Malhotra’s connections to another State YouTuber after she was arrested for allegedly exchanging private information and maintaining constant touch with a Pakistani national.

According to Sarthak Sarangi, Inspector General of Police (IGP) CID Crime Branch, facts are being checked.

“We just learned that Jyoti Malhotra, a YouTuber, visited the Jagannath shrine in Puri and uploaded a video about it on Instagram. She also went to Konark and Chilika. She was communicating with an Odisha YouTuber. We’re checking every detail. Regarding Jyoti Malhotra, we are communicating with our colleagues in Haryana,” the police source said.

Hisar, Haryana resident Jyoti Malhotra was detained on suspicion of exchanging private information and maintaining constant communication with a Pakistani national. Vinit Agrawal, the Puri superintendent of police, said that they are discussing the issue with the Haryana police.

According to Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapoor, a number of people were previously detained in Haryana for allegedly engaging in espionage efforts on behalf of Pakistan. He said that heightened state-wide monitoring and surveillance led to the crackdown.
