If you live within a 20 km radius of any toll plaza, then you can get a monthly toll pass for just Rs 340 and cross the toll unlimited times every month without any extra charge.

Actually, this facility is very beneficial for lakhs of people who live near the toll and cross this plaza daily. Many people are not aware of this scheme and they get angry or start arguing every time the toll charge is deducted from their fastag, whereas the government has made very clear rules for this.

Let us tell you that in September 2024, the government implemented the “Jitni Doori, Utna Toll” policy. Under this, vehicles that can be tracked by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) will not be charged any toll for a journey of up to 20 km.

The government has introduced this facility by amending the National Highway Fee Rules, 2008. According to the amended rules, the first 20 km of travel of GNSS-based vehicles will be considered free. Toll will be charged for the distance thereafter. This policy applies to all types of private vehicles, except commercial vehicles with a national permit. It has been implemented as a pilot project on some national highways since July 2024.

How to get a pass of Rs 340?

The facility of a toll pass is given to those people who live within a radius of 20 km around any toll plaza. For this, they have to get a monthly pass of Rs 340 made only once. After getting this pass, no matter how many times you cross the toll, you will not have to pay any separate charge. This pass is for one vehicle; that is, only the owner of the vehicle who gets it made can use it. Without this pass, you cannot argue with the toll employees, because according to the rules, you must have a Toll Plaza Pass.

Who can avail of this facility?

This toll exemption facility is available to those who live within a radius of 20 km around a toll plaza. Only private vehicle owners can avail of this benefit. Also, they must have a GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) enabled vehicle or a FASTag system. Apart from this, to avail the benefit, the person must also have a residential proof of that area, which can prove that he lives within a 20 km radius of the toll plaza.
