The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council has decided to hand Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi as he has continuously broken the Code of Conduct. Digvesh had already been given a penalty two times in IPL because of his celebrations after taking a wicket in their matches.
However, his iconic ‘Notebook’ celebration turned out to go south as during their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Rathi got engaged in a heated altercation with Abhishek Sharma for doing the same act.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has affirmed that Digvesh Rathi has been found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct for the this instance in this very season. Hence, the spinner has already been fined 50 percent of his match fee, and has also been given a suspension- which will restrict him from playing for LSG in their upcoming clash.
“This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to Three Demerit Points he had accumulated earlier – One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025 and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 04, 2025,” an IPL release stated.
“As he now has Five Demerit Points this season – which result in a one-game suspension – Digvesh will now be suspended for LSG’s next game – against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025 in Ahmedabad,” the statement added.
Apart from Digvesh Rathi, SRH star Abhishek Sharma was also given a fine of 25% of his match fee as he was the one who had initiated the clash that happened between the players. Since this was his first offence in the season, he was only given one demerit point.
“Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Monday. This was his first Level 1 offence under Article 2.6 this season and hence, he has accumulated One Demerit Point,” the IPL release further read.
LSG now have their next match against Gujarat Titans, which will be held on May 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As Digvesh Rathi is suspended for one match, he will not been seen on the field for this clash.
