Saudi Arabia has taken a revolutionary step in the world of medical technology. The first such clinic in the world has been started here where patients are being treated, not humans, but Artificial Intelligence (AI) based doctors. This unique project has been started in partnership with China’s Synyi AI and Saudi’s Almoosa Health Group. The pilot program was launched last month in the eastern province of Al-Ahsa.
This clinic is operated by AI Doctor ‘Dr Hua’. This doctor asks the patient their symptoms through the tablet, asks the necessary follow-ups and analyzes the disease with the help of photographs and data. Human assistants also cooperate in these processes. A human doctor gives a final approval to the treatment plan prepared by Dr HUA. Human doctors are available on the spot in emergency so that any situation can be dealt with.
Currently, this AI clinic focuses on respiratory diseases, including more than 30 diseases such as asthma and pharminditis (sore throat). It will be expanded in the future to gastrointestinal and skin diseases, which will lead to the number of total diseases to 50.
According to Synyi AI, now human doctors play only the “safety gatekeeper”, which ensure that the advice given by AI is completely safe and accurate. Synyi AI’s CEO Zhang Shaodian said, “AI used to help doctors only, but now we have reached the final level where AI can treat patients themselves.”
Synyi AI claims that the error rate of this AI in the testing phase has been only 0.3%. This technology has been developed in collaboration with TENCENT, HongShan Capital, GGV Capital and Saudi Government. It uses local language, medical vocabulary and cultural aspects, using localized LLM (Large Language Models). This pilot program will be handed over to the Saudi administration for review with the expectation of government approval in the coming 18 months.
