Google has officially rolled out its NotebookLM app on Android and iOS, bringing its powerful AI-powered notebook assistant to mobile devices. The app builds on the success of its web version and introduces a standout feature—Audio Overviews, enabling users to generate and listen to AI-curated summaries from their saved content.

NotebookLM Mobile App Now Available Globally

After allowing pre-registration earlier this month, Google has begun automatically installing the app for users who signed up in advance. In a blog post on Monday, the company confirmed that NotebookLM is now live on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, offering many of the core functionalities already available on the desktop version.

Once opened, the app presents users with a list of created notebooks. Google’s interface assigns relevant emojis to notebooks based on the content, although users are free to rename them for better personalization.

Supported input sources currently include PDFs, YouTube links, website URLs, and copied text snippets. However, the app does not yet support formats such as Google Docs, audio files, markdown text, or Google Slides, which remain exclusive to the web version for now.

Audio Overviews: A Unique AI-Powered Audio Experience

Among the most anticipated features now available on mobile is Audio Overviews. This innovative tool allows users to listen to AI-generated discussions that synthesize information from notebook sources. The Studio button, located on the bottom-right corner inside any notebook, lets users generate these audio summaries.

While an active internet connection is required to stream audio, users can download the files for offline listening. Even better, the app offers an interactive audio discussion mode, where users can “join” the conversation and ask follow-up questions to the AI participants—essentially turning passive listening into an active learning experience.

Other Features and Limitations

The NotebookLM app also supports:

  • Topic summarisation

  • Chat-based querying of saved content

  • Emoji-tagging of notebooks

  • Offline playback of downloaded audio overviews

Notably absent from the mobile app are study guide creation and MindMap generation, features that continue to remain exclusive to the desktop version. Google has indicated that more features will be added in the coming months as the app matures.

Pricing and Subscription

While NotebookLM is free to use, access to additional features like more notebooks, more source slots, and premium Audio Overview capabilities falls under the NotebookLM Plus tier. This premium version is currently bundled with the Google One AI Premium subscription, which is priced at ₹1,950 per month in India.

Looking Ahead

With the mobile launch, Google is aiming to make AI-powered knowledge management more accessible and portable. Whether it’s summarizing research papers, generating discussion-style insights, or helping students prepare for exams, NotebookLM is shaping up to be a versatile productivity tool for learners, creators, and professionals alike.
