Famous actor R. Madhavan recently drew attention to the negative effects of excessive use of mobile phones on the body during a health awareness seminar. He raised the question on stage that we are slowly harming our bodies due to our digital habits.
Madhavan made the audience realize through an interesting experiment that due to constantly holding the phone, slight changes have started to occur in our hands and fingers. He asked the people present to first run their fingers over the hand with which they use the phone less on their ribs. Then do the same process with the hand with which they use the phone more often. Madhavan claimed that most people will feel a slight pit-like shape in the hand that holds the phone.
'Mobile Phone Fingers' and Changing Body Structure
Madhavan has named this change 'Mobile Phone Fingers'. He says that holding the phone all day is affecting the natural structure of the body, and this change can gradually become permanent. He said, "Your body is adapting to the phone, but this change is not in your interest."
Symptoms like 'text claw' and 'cell phone elbow' are increasing.
According to a report by the Orthopedic Institute, complaints of pain or discomfort in fingers, wrists, and elbows are increasing rapidly among those who have been using smartphones for a long time. The term 'text claw' is associated with the experience of those people whose fingers and palms get stiff and painful due to repeated use of their mobiles. At the same time, people suffering from 'cell phone elbow' feel tingling or numbness in the little and ring fingers, especially when they use the phone by bending the elbow for a long time.
Preventive measures: Little changes, big impact
Experts recommend that some simple steps can be taken to avoid these physical effects of mobile:
Limit screen time
Keep changing the sitting and holding position.
Use earphones or a headset for phone calls.
Stretch fingers and wrists.
Apply a hot or cold compress if needed.
Rest your hands and use the phone holder.
