Even though the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were the first team eliminated from the IPL 2025 playoffs, former India batter Abhinav Mukund believes that players like MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja should stay for another Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Mukund, a former player for CSK, remembered the Chennai-based team’s prior achievements and pointed out that Jadeja had a clear position, usually batting at No. 5 or 6 following Shivam Dube.

He emphasized how crucial it is for Jadeja’s batting stance to be clear and thinks that Jadeja will continue to be useful for CSK in a more organized role.

After Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja batted at number five or number six for the previous three to four seasons. Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa were among the many powerful players, and Shivam Dubey’s form was also excellent when CSK won their most recent IPL championship. Since it was CSK’s strength, Ravindra Jadeja will have a well-defined role. Mukund was cited by ESPNcricinfo as stating, “They had a very good role definition and role clarity for Jadeja earlier.”

The 43-year-old MS Dhoni is still fit to play and has one more season left in him, according to Mukund, who also disputed criticism about his age and health. He believes that Dhoni will be essential to CSK’s face-rebuilding, and the squad might benefit from both Dhoni’s and Jadeja’s expertise.

“We have previously seen that MS Dhoni is still fit to play, so forget about his age. Since the Chennai Super Kings are currently rebuilding, I think MS Dhoni will play one more season. Additionally, he will have excellent top-order hitters and spin guys. He has the ability to set up the Chennai Super Kings to score at least 200 runs. Since you are all young players, it will be very difficult without Dhoni and Jadeja when they have a role. CSK has a serious issue with your 11 or 12 players, who are all young and without a leadership group. Dhoni and Jadeja are both crucial players, but CSK has to make their positions clear”.
