Some Bollywood movies become cult classics and even after years and years of release fans still very fondly watch those films. Especially when the movie has Shah Rukh Khan the chances of that film skyrocketing at the box office become higher. Today we will discuss one such film that was rejected by 5 heroes and ultimately had Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. The movie turned out to be a hit and made fans go gaga.
If you are wondering which film we are talking about then the movie here in discussion is the one and only Darr.
Released in 1993 and helmed by Yash Chopra the movie featured Shah Rukh Khan Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol in lead roles. Darr is one of the few movies where Shah Rukh Khan played the role of a villain. Apart from the main leads the movie also starred Annu Kapoor Tanvi Azmi Dalip Tahil and Anupam Kher in supporting roles.
Do you know many actors rejected the movie before SRK Juhi and Sunny were finalized? After Chandni and Lamhe director Yash Chopra wanted to work with Sridevi again in Darr. But she demanded to change the entire script. She wanted Kirans character in the film to be that of an obsessive lover. However Yash Chopra flatly refused to make any changes to the script of the film. Hence Sridevi was never cast.
Rishi Kapoor Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff were initially approached for the role of Sunil but all three refused to do the film. After this Sunny Deol was cast as the lead for the movie.
Do you know that it was Sanjay Dutt who was Yashs first choice for the role of the villain? However he was arrested in the Bombay bombing case so he was not taken for the role. Later Aamir was approached and he agreed to do the film. However when Aamir asked Yash Chopra to read him the script the director refused and eventually Aamir was also removed from the movie.
Finally it was Shah Rukh Khan who was cast for the film. After the release of Darr it turned out to be a huge hit and became the third highest-grossing film of that year.
