According to Znews, QQ reported that attention was drawn when Wong attended Tse’s concert in late April, sparking renewed discussions about their strong bond since their 2014 reunion.

Chinese media attribute the superstar couple’s strong relationship to the following factors:

Financial independence

A key factor in the longevity of Tse and Wong’s relationship is their financial independence, as both have achieved success in their respective entertainment careers.

Tse has two sons, Lucas and Quintus—from his previous marriage to Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, which lasted from 2006 to 2011—and has consistently emphasized that he would leave his fortune to them. He also pays significant child support to Cheung, reportedly up to HK$7.3 million (US$932,043) annually.

In 2014, Tse transferred a commercial property valued at HK$400 million to his elder son Lucas and set up a HK$300 million education fund for his sons.

Meanwhile, Wong has long been an icon in the Chinese entertainment industry, known for her powerful voice and a string of timeless hits such as “Vulnerable Woman,” “Red Bean,” and “The Heart Sutra.” At the peak of her career in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Wong reportedly earned up to US$90 million annually from albums, endorsements, and concerts, per 163.

In addition, she has invested heavily in real estate, with properties worth over US$20 million spread across Hong Kong and China. Wong also runs a charity foundation named after her daughter Li Yan, dedicated to supporting children with cleft palates.

Her financial success and investments allow both she and Tse to maintain separate financial paths, helping prevent any issues over money.

Mutual dependence

Although both individuals are financially independent, Tse and Wong reportedly maintain a strong emotional connection. Wong owns a villa in Beijing, where Tse stays during his visits to the city, demonstrating the closeness they share.

This mutual dependence allows them to maintain their emotional bond while preserving their independence in professional and financial matters.

Wong as Tse’s perfect match

Wong’s bold and decisive personality has long captivated Tse. Known for her open approach to love and relationships, when she was caught dating rock singer Dou Wei—who was then married to her from 1996 to 1999, Wong famously stated: “I think love is love. It wouldn’t surprise me if tomorrow I loved a plumber.”

Her unique personality has drawn Tse to her since their first meeting at a party hosted by Hong Kong singer Anita Mui in the early 2000s, according to the South China Morning Post. Just shortly after the event, the couple was seen kissing and holding hands in public.

Her presence has also always held a special place in Tse’s heart. After Tse’s divorce from Cheung in 2011 and Wong’s split from her second husband, Chinese actor Li Yapeng, in 2013, the two quickly rekindled their relationship. According to Chinese media, to Tse, being with Wong feels like fulfilling a long-held dream despite their 11-year age difference. Their deep spiritual connection and mutual understanding have been key in keeping their relationship strong.

Shared approach to life

Both Tse and Wong value privacy and avoid flaunting their wealth or personal lives. They keep a low profile, resisting the pressures of fame and media scrutiny. Wong once stated: “Why, as public figures, do we need to reveal everything about ourselves? I have nothing to do with the outside world.”

This shared approach to life has helped the couple understand each other well and maintain their bond over the years.

Therefore, many fans and media outlets believe that Tse and Wong embody the highest form of love—a love unburdened by financial concerns or daily struggles. Their relationship has endured because they have managed to create a balance of independence and emotional closeness, giving each other pure and passionate emotions.

At 56, Wong remains one of the most iconic figures in Chinese music and cinema. She gained international fame through her roles in films directed by Wong Kar-wai, including “Chungking Express” and “2046.”

Tse, now 45, continues to enjoy success in both acting and music, establishing himself as a multifaceted public figure since his debut in 1996.
