Islamabad: In the 190 million pound corruption case, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) asked the acting chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to expedite hearings on petitions seeking the suspension of sentences given to PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, according to Dawn.

To call for Imran Khan’s release, dozens of PTI employees and assembly members demonstrated. Along with Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Barrister Ali Zafar, Latif Khosa, Shibli Faraz, Aliya Hamza, and other members of the PTI, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan called for an end to what he described as Imran Khan’s unfair imprisonment.

Aleema Khan arrived, and the PTI leaders adjourned their demonstration, promising to return the following week when the hearing is anticipated to take place. According to Dawn, PTI attorney Shoaib Shaheen said that the interim chief justice had promised them that the matter would be heard the next week.

On May 9, 2023, the investigative team traveled from Lahore to Adiala Jail to administer a polygraph test to Imran Khan, who was the subject of nine charges. Citing a constitutional clause that states that one cannot be forced to testify, he chose not to take the exam.

According to The Express Tribune, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan earlier on May 15 rejected any agreement about the case of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, stating that political disputes should be resolved by dialogue rather than covert agreements.

Gohar Ali Khan said that “no deal has been made” with any quarter over Imran Khan’s issue while speaking outside Parliament House. He said that such discussions had to be kept private and in accordance with the constitution.

In response to inquiries about rumors that Imran Khan had consented to speak with the government, the PTI chairman said that he had sent the invitation from the prime minister of Pakistan but would not divulge specifics about the negotiations that took place inside Adiala prison.

He cautioned against media sensationalism and emphasized that honesty and prudence were necessary for real advancement in national politics. He said, “Political matters must be resolved through talks.”
