Tokyo: On Thursday, Japan, which maintains a 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' with India, expressed its strong condemnation of the escalating threat posed by terrorism during a meeting with a visiting group of Indian Parliamentarians led by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha.

The Indian delegation, representing multiple political parties, arrived in Tokyo earlier that day and met with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya. They reiterated India's steadfast commitment to combating terrorism, particularly through Operation Sindoor, which aims to highlight Pakistan's involvement with global terrorist organizations.

Minister Iwaya began the meeting by extending condolences to the victims of a recent terrorist attack in Kashmir and expressed sympathy for the injured.

"Terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances," Iwaya stated, emphasizing Japan's firm stance against all forms of terrorism and its commitment to collaborate with the international community, including India, in the fight against this menace, according to a statement from the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

Iwaya also welcomed the recent agreement between India and Pakistan to halt military operations and mentioned his discussions with India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, expressing hope for a peaceful resolution through dialogue for stability in South Asia. Jha elaborated on India's perspective regarding the current situation.

Notably, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was also in Tokyo, where he engaged in the Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister Dialogue with Japan's Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Takehiro Funakoshi. Misri conveyed India's strong message of zero tolerance towards terrorism while discussing recent regional developments, particularly in the Indo-Pacific.

Additionally, the Indian delegation held significant discussions with Takashi Endo, Chairman of the Japanese House of Representatives Committee on National Security. Iwaya stressed the importance of bringing those responsible for terrorism to justice and expressed robust support for India's response to the Pahalgam attack.

"We reaffirm our national commitment to act decisively against terrorism and its supporters. We appreciate Japan's backing and its call for justice against those responsible for such acts," Jha shared on social media following the meeting.

The delegation included BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi and Brij Lal, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M) Rajya Sabha member John Barittas, and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid. Their visit signifies the start of India's extensive diplomatic efforts to expose Pakistan's ongoing role in cross-border terrorism, particularly in light of the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
