Alejandro Garnacho's future at is under a cloud again following the Europa League final loss to The Argentine, 20, who was linked with Napoli and Chelsea in January, made no secret of his frustration after being benched in Bilbao, having been a regular starter on route to the final.

He was made to wait until the 71st minute before getting on the pitch as he replaced an unimpressive Mason Mount. Speaking to reporters after the match, didn't hold back as he summed up United's desperate season and He said: "Obviously it's hard for everyone. Our season was s***. We didn't beat anyone in the league. We lacked a lot of things. When you don't score goals, you always need more. Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today... I don't know. I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next."

Adding fuel to the fire, his brother, Roberto Garnacho, took to Instagram to criticise Ruben Amorim. He posted: "Working as no one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in the last two finals, just to be on the pitch for 19 mins and get thrown under the bus. Wowe hahahahahaha."

While the talented Garnacho has shown flashes of quality since breaking into the first team, there have been too many moments of controversy...

Ferguson's warning

Garnacho just can't help himself when it comes to social media, it appears. After being taken off at half-time in a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth last year, he 'liked' a series of negative posts about then-boss Erik ten Hag.

With Ten Hag under pressure before a surprise FA Cup final win over Manchester City, Garnacho's apparent willingness to undermine his manager reminded many of Sir Alex Ferguson's sage words from his autobiography.

The club's greatest manager said: "There is a phrase in football about players 'not playing for the manager,' which I have seen happen a thousand times.

"Once that happens, the manager is as good as dead, because he has failed in his major undertaking, which is to motivate the players to follow him."

Olympics plea denied

Garnacho found himself at odds with the club authority once again over his Olympic aspirations. United refused his plea to compete for his nation at the Paris Games last year, citing the clash with the start of the Premier League season.

United held their ground despite Garnacho making an in-person appeal to Ten Hag, whose stance can be understood given the pressure he was under after a poor 2023/24 campaign.

Agent's anger

It's not just United figures who have clashed with Garnacho and his representatives. In 2023, agent Enrique de Lucas lashed out at the Spanish Football Federation after his client's decision to chase international honours with Argentina, having played for Spain at youth level.

De Lucas condemned "bad politics" as he told "I think that Spain is a closed issue and there is no hiding it. Very bad management by the Spanish Federation, I don't know who, or I can guess who, but very bad management or very bad politics. And I think Garna is not going to be the only case in which a player with dual nationality could lose, I honestly tell you."

Apology demand

Roberto is no stranger to sparking controversy with impassioned remarks. He once tore into fans after his sibling's goal against Wolves in May 2023, which came after Garnacho had been criticised on social media.

Roberto blasted to one social media user, demanding: "Apologise as much as you disrespected, b******."
