The New Jersey Department of Health has issued a warning following potential exposure to the measles virus at a recent Shakira concert held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford last week.
According to a report by a foreign news agency, health officials revealed that a non-local individual infected with measles attended the concert. This has raised concerns about the possibility of measles spreading among concertgoers.
The Department of Health stated that individuals who are not fully vaccinated against measles or who have never had the disease may be at risk of infection. Symptoms in those exposed may appear up until June 6.
Health authorities have advised anyone who attended the concert and experiences symptoms of measles to contact a doctor immediately. However, it is important to call ahead before visiting any clinic or hospital to prevent further transmission.
Common symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a red rash that appears on the skin. The disease is highly contagious and can spread through the air or via saliva or mucus from an infected person. The virus can remain in the air for one to two hours.
Officials have strongly urged all concert attendees, including children, to receive the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. Vaccination is especially mandatory for individuals who plan to travel.

The 48-year-old singer informed her fans about the situation on the social media platform ‘X’. She said she had to be rushed to the hospital late at night, where doctors instructed her to take complete rest.
Shakira wrote in her message, ‘I am sorry that I had to go to the hospital last night due to stomach pain and now I am under treatment. The doctors have advised that my condition does not allow me to perform on stage now.
Shakira lamented the cancellation of the concert, saying she was anxious to meet her fans in Peru, but now hopes to recover and perform again soon.
