There has been a new stir in the electronics and technology sector in India. Taiwan’s leading company Foxconn has invested ₹ 12,500 crore ($ 1.5 billion) in India. The investment has been made in Foxcon’s Unit in Singapore in Yuzhan Technology India (Yuzhan Technology India), which makes smartphone parts in Tamil Nadu and is an important part of Apple’s iPhone supply chain.

Steps in the semiconductor sector also

The Government of India has allowed Foxconn to set up a semiconductor factory near Noida Airport. This unit is being created in association with HCL Group and its total cost is ₹ 3,700 crore. Here display drivers used in smartphones, laptops, cars and other devices will be made.

India’s semiconductor dream

The Government of India is continuously promoting the semiconductor sector. There are currently 6 semiconductors in the country in the project pipeline, out of which 5 are already underway. More than 270 institutions and 70 startups are working in this direction. In SCL Mohali, 20 chip designs made by students have also been completed so far.

Speed ​​of iPhone construction in Karnataka

Foxconn has set up a factory on 300 acres in Devanhalli, Karnataka, where the work of making iPhone is going on. The plant is spread over the villages of Dodduddully and Chappardahalli, about 34 km from Bangalore Airport. Foxconn is investing more than ₹ 21,000 crore in this plant. Its first phase (2023–24) has invested ₹ 3,000 crore, and the second phase will be completed by 2026–27. It aims to create 1 lakh iPhones by December 2024.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has already said that most of the iPhone sold in America will be made in India. Although US President Donald Trump recently told Apple not to manufacture in India, Foxconn and Apple’s focus is now shifting towards India.
