Bollywood veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah is known for his strong performance as well as his impeccable statements. He has openly commented on the big stars of the industry several times, which has also created controversies. Once, he had questioned the acting of Hindi cinema’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna and megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who made a lot of headlines.
Tightened on Amitabh Bachchan’s films
In an interview in 2010, Naseeruddin Shah commented about Amitabh Bachchan’s career that,
“He has not given any ‘great’ film in his career.”
When he was asked about the film ‘Sholay’, he also dismissed him and said:
“Sholay can be entertaining, but it is not a great film.”
This statement was surprising, as ‘Sholay’ is counted among the most prestigious films of Indian cinema.
Conversation with Javed Akhtar revealed
During the IFP season 14, Shah recalled the conversation with Javed Akhtar and said that:
“Javed Saheb said that something can be said to be original until the source is known.
I told them that almost every scene of ‘Sholay’ shows the effect of someone, whether it is Charlie Chaplin or Clint Eastwood. “
Rajesh Khanna’s scathing attack: ‘limited and poor actor’
In an interview to Hindustan Times in 2016, Shah said about Rajesh Khanna:
“No matter how many hits Kaka may have been, he was a limited actor… rather he was a very poor actor.”
He pushed Hindi cinema towards average. ”
He also said that Kaka used to think of ruling the industry, but was weak from a creative point of view.
Twinkle Khanna expressed resentment, had to apologize
This statement of Shah was reacted strongly by Rajesh Khanna’s fans as well as his daughter Twinkle Khanna.
He tweeted and said:
“If you cannot respect a living person, then at least call a person good and bad who is no longer in this world.”
After increasing protest, Naseeruddin Shah withdrew his statement, apologizing.
