NEET UG 2025, NEET UG Result 2025: There is a big uproar in Indore, Madhya Pradesh regarding the NEET UG 2025 exam. During this examination held on 4 May 2025, power went out at many centers in Indore, due to which hundreds of students had to face a lot of trouble. Some had to give the paper in candlelight, while some returned without taking the exam. Due to this, more than 50 students appealed to the Madhya Pradesh High Court, and now this matter is hot in the court. The matter was heard again. Let us know what has happened in this matter so far and what is expected to happen next.
NEET UG 2025: What is the whole matter?
NEET UG is the exam through which admission is given in courses like Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, and Nursing. This time on 4 May 2025, more than 21 lakh students across the country took this exam, in which about 27,000 students appeared at 49 centers in Indore. Heavy rain and a 100-120 km/hour storm in Indore that day devastated the power system. Power went out at 11 to 24 centers. Candles were lit at some centers, and at some places, even that was not there. The result was that the paper of many students was spoiled. Some returned without writing. Students say that this is a question of their lives. Admission to medical is their dream and their year can be wasted due to power cuts. Therefore, many affected students including a girl student filed a petition in the High Court. They demand that either the examination should be held again at these centers or some other solution should be found.
What happened in the court?
15 May 2025: Initially, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had stayed the NEET UG results of the entire country, because no lawyer from the central government reached the court. This was a big setback. Due to this the results of 21 lakh students got stuck.
16 May 2025: The National Testing Agency (NTA) argued in the court that it is not right to stop the results of the whole country due to the problem of only a few centers in Indore. The court agreed to their point and allowed the release of results of all places except 11 affected centers in Indore. Also, a notice was sent to the electricity company and the examination centers, and a reply was sought by 30 June 2025.
What happened in the High Court today?
22 May 2025: Solicitor General Tushar Mehta participated in the court through video conferencing on behalf of NTA in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He suggested that a committee be formed for the 24 affected centers of Indore, which will listen to the complaints of the students and decide whether the examination should be held again or some other way should be found. The court fixed the next hearing on 26 May 2025 to consider this.
What is the problem of the students?
More than 600 students have been affected at 11 to 24 centers in Indore. They say that giving the paper in the dark or returning without giving the paper is an injustice to them. Petitioners' lawyer Mridul Bhatnagar told the court that the Meteorological Department had already warned of storms and rain, yet the power company and examination centers did not make arrangements for backup like generators. Students say that this is a violation of their constitutional rights. Their demand is clear, either the examination should be held again, or justice should be done to them.
Argument of NTA and power company
NTA says that the result of the whole country cannot be stopped due to the problem of Indore, because this will put the future of lakhs of students at stake. At the same time, the electricity company and the examination centers have yet to respond. The court has given them time till June 30, 2025.
What will happen next?
The next hearing will be held in the Madhya Pradesh court on May 26, 2025, in which the court will consider suggestions like committee formation and re-examination. If the court accepts Tushar Mehta's suggestion, then a committee will be formed which will find a way out for the affected students.
Why is this matter important?
NEET UG is the biggest way to make a career in the medical field. Government schools were made examination centers for the first time in Indore, but the lack of backup there raised questions about the whole system. Earlier also such incidents have happened in the country like in Odisha in 2016 and at some centers in 2022, where the examination was held again due to technical problems. In such a situation, the students hope that they will get justice from the court.
