Covid-19 Mumbai: The Corona virus has once again knocked in Mumbai. The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) has accelerated the process of monitoring and testing in view of the increase in Kovid-19 cases in the city. Along with Korona, special attention is being paid to diseases like influenza. The Health Department has made it clear that there is no need to panic, but vigilance is very important.
Korona’s new sub-program JN.1 has now knocked in India too. Cases of infection have been seen in countries like Singapore and Hong Kong. In Mumbai, there has been a sudden surge in cases with 120 cases in the month of May, causing the Health Department to be alert.
BMC officials said that along with Kovid-19, ILI (influenza-like disease) and SARI (severe acute respiratory infection) are also being monitored. Those who are seen symptoms of Corona are being investigated immediately and positive patients are being treated under the prescribed protocol.
The Health Department said that genome sequencing of all positive samples is being done so that the new variant can be identified and a strategy of treatment can be prepared. Samples sent from Maharashtra National Institute of Virology (NIV) and B.J. They are being sent for investigation in medical college.
According to BMC, in many cases patients have been found in co-infection with H3N2 and other respiratory viruses. Taking these matters seriously, special monitoring is being done in public health laboratories. The death report is also being audited intensively.
In Mumbai, 1-1 cases in January and February, no cases in March, 4 cases in April and 120 cases have been registered in May. So far, most of the total 2146 patients have recovered. KEM Hospital in Mumbai has confirmed two deaths to Kovid, which has increased vigilance at the local level.
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 257 active cases have been registered in the country till 19 May 2025. There have been maximum 69 cases in Kerala, 44 in Maharashtra and 34 in Tamil Nadu. New cases have also come up in other states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Sikkim.
However, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said that the country’s situation is currently under control. The danger has been prevented from spreading due to timely investigation, tracking and monitoring.
JN.1 variant is a new form of Omikron in which additional mutations are seen in spike protein. This helps the virus to join and enter human cells. Its infectious is high and it spreads easily.
Symptoms of infection in this variant can be mild to moderate and a sick person can be cured in one to two weeks, but in severe cases the disease may persist for months. Many people can also be infected without symptoms, which makes it more dangerous.
Health experts have said, "There is no need to panic right now, but vigilance and covid-covered behavior is very important." Especially people living in high -risk areas have been advised to take special precautions.
Singapore has a 28% increase in weekly cases and Hong Kong has the highest number of 31 deaths in a year. On this, experts have warned India not to take care and continue caution.
