Fake University, University News, UP News: Monad University located in the Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh is once again in the headlines, but this time the reason is very shameful. The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police has exposed a huge racket of fake degrees and mark sheets in this university. Investigation has revealed that in the last four years, this university has distributed more than one lakh fake degrees. This is not only a big blot on the education system, but also playing with the future of thousands of students. This scam has created a stir among employed people and students because based on such degrees, many people are doing jobs in government and private sectors.
How was the fraud exposed?
In 2024, Meerut Police recovered 140 fake documents from the bags of three people, which included eight mark sheets from Monad University. After this, the investigation of STF started, which unraveled the layers of this scam. In the raid conducted by STF, 1,372 fake mark sheets, degrees, and 262 fake provisional and migration certificates were recovered. These degrees were courses like BA, B.Ed, B.Pharma, BCA, B.Tech, and LLB, which were being sold for Rs 50,000 to Rs 4 lakh.
Who was arrested?
STF has arrested the university's chairperson Vijendra Singh Hooda, pro-chancellor Nitin Kumar Singh, and eight other employees. Vijendra Singh is already the main accused in the infamous bike boat scam, for which he has been carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh. Investigation revealed that Vijendra had invested his illegal earnings in more than 20 companies and now STF is in the process of freezing all these accounts. STF also revealed that 228 people are working in government jobs based on fake degrees. Now their jobs are in danger. Also, the server of another private college in Meerut, SVS College, is being investigated, which may be connected to this racket.
Where is Monad University?
Monad University is in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 2010 under Act 23 of the Uttar Pradesh government and is recognized by the UGC. This university claims to offer pharmacy, engineering, law, management, and other UG-PG courses. About 6,000 students are studying on this campus spread over 58 acres, but the STF investigation has tarnished its image. The management of the university was bought by Vijendra Singh two and a half years ago, after which it became a hub of fake degrees. According to the police, this fraud is not limited to Hapur only, but its network is spread to four other universities in Uttar Pradesh and other states. Hapur DM Abhishek Pandey has written a letter to the Higher Education Department recommending cancellation of the university's recognition and a chargesheet is expected to be filed in the case soon.
What actions did the STF take?
The STF has seized important documents, computers, and other materials from the university. Vijendra Singh's bank accounts are under investigation and the process of freezing his as well as the university and SVS College accounts has begun. In another case, the STF had seized examination copies on charges of conducting illegal examinations in a college on Dehradun Road in Bijnor, but the university's examination in charge was released after interrogation.
Students be careful
This scam has put the future of thousands of students in danger, who had spent their hard work and money to get degrees from Monad University. Many users on X have expressed anger over this matter. One user wrote - This university has cheated thousands of youth in Hapur. Even after spending lakhs of rupees, their degrees are now useless. This scam of Monad University exposes the deep corruption in the education system. This is a warning to those students and parents who are admitted to any university without proper investigation. Some people are turning this sacred field of education into a profitable business, the brunt of which is being borne by innocent students. It is expected that with the action of STF and the strictness of the government, such frauds will be stopped in the future.
