The residents of Pune are irked over poor management by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) as unseasonal intense rainfall has reflected the poor monsoon preparedness work.

"The civic body's claims of having completed most of the repair works seem like a joke now, as the city roads have become waterlogged. The waterlogging situation has already occurred on various roads even before the complete onset of monsoons. This reflects the shabby work done by PMC just to fool the citizens," said a resident.

Meanwhile, when the people are protesting over the bad situation and waterlogging issues, Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar has issued a stern warning to the PMC, threatening a protest if the civic body fails to ensure systematic and timely drain cleaning.

Dhangekar highlighted that the PMC’s lack of urgency in drain cleaning is unacceptable. He stated that if the municipal administration does not take immediate and effective action, he, along with local residents and party workers, will stage a protest inside the PMC premises.

“With the monsoon approaching fast, the PMC is yet to clean the drains, as waterlogging situations have occurred at various locations in the city. If the civic body fails to act, we will be forced to protest in the PMC to demand accountability and action,” said Dhangekar.

Following the complaint, PMC officials state that desilting and cleaning are being carried out in phases, prioritizing flood-prone zones. "Encroachments, garbage dumping, and lack of public cooperation are cited as major hurdles in maintaining clean drains. The work of repair has already been started, and in the coming week, we are aiming to complete maximum work," he added.

The civic body stated that monitoring and more frequent inspections will be carried out ahead of heavy rains.
