Nothing is better than biting into a burger on a hot sunny day, but there is a simple way to them much tastier. Jennifer Segal, a trained chef and founder of has shared that adding bread and milk to the meat helps tenderise the beef to make it even more .

She said: "White Sandwich Bread soaks up the milk to make a paste that keeps the burgers juicy and tender. Soft white bread with the crusts removed will give you the best texture-it blends easily and doesn't overpower the meat."

Burgers may seem easy to make or grab from the supermarket, but making them yourself with bread soaked in milk is the key to making them juicier.

The bread acts like a sponge to lock in more moisture to prevent the burgers drying out or burning while you are cooking them.

It also helps tenderise the meat so you get a better texture and the bread is highly absorbent which helps enhance any other ingredients you add to the meat.

This is a classic technique used to make burgers juicy, tender and full of flavour, and it only takes 10 minutes to prepare before you begin cooking them.

How to make burgers taste even better Ingredients (for eight servings)
  • 1.4kg of lean minced beef
  • Three garlic cloves (minced)
  • Three spring onions (finely sliced)
  • Two slices of white bread
  • 80ml of milk
  • One and a half tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • Two tablespoons of tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper
  • Eight hamburger buns
Instructions

To begin, preheat a barbecue grill to a high heat or preheat a oven to 190C. Place the bread and milk in a large bowl, then mash it up with a fork until you get a chunk paste.

Add the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, salt and pepper to the mixture and stir to combine. Next, add the minced beef and spring onions. Use your hands to break up the meat and mix everything together.

Also use your hands to shape the meat into burgers. Divide the mixture into eight potions and then form a compact ball, then flatten into a patty. Use a spoon to press lightly into each patty to make a small shallow dip in the middle. This helps the burger cook evenly to prevent the edges burning.

Then, all you need to do is cook your burgers. Grill on a barbecue for two to four minutes each side or cook in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes.

Toast the buns a few minutes before the patties are ready, and you are guaranteed to have a juicer burgers that is packed with flavour.
