Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India] - On May 25, Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced a disappointing six-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Jaipur. Captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged that although the team set a commendable target, their bowling execution was lacking. Delhi successfully chased down the 207-run target in just 19.3 overs.
In his post-match comments, Iyer remarked, “207 was an excellent score on this pitch. There were inconsistencies in bounce, and the ball wasn’t coming onto the bat as expected. Our discipline with the ball was not up to par,” as reported by a sports media outlet.
Despite having a good understanding of the pitch conditions, Iyer noted that his bowlers strayed from their initial strategy.
“We evaluated the wicket and aimed to bowl hard lengths at the stumps, but we overdid the bouncers in an attempt to take wickets,” he elaborated, indicating that their aggressive tactics did not suit the pitch, which required more precision.
Although Punjab has already clinched a playoff spot, securing a top-two finish is now uncertain. They will need to win their upcoming matches and hope for favorable outcomes in other games.
“Every team is in a similar position in this tournament; it’s essential to remain positive and composed. We’ll return with a robust strategy,” Iyer expressed, showing confidence in the team’s potential to recover.
Punjab aims to regroup swiftly and conclude the league stage on a high note, with hopes of achieving a top-two finish that would provide them with a second chance in the playoffs.
In this match, Sameer Rizvi delivered a remarkable performance, scoring an unbeaten 58 runs off just 25 balls, leading Delhi Capitals to a thrilling six-wicket victory over Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
