Shimla/Rampur: On Saturday evening, various regions in Himachal Pradesh experienced heavy rainfall, with Rampur in the Shimla district being severely affected by a sudden cloudburst. This event took place near the Jagatkhana area, leading to widespread damage and alarm among the local population.
Around 6:00 PM, a cloudburst hit Jagatkhana, a locality close to Rampur. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the area was quickly inundated with a surge of rainwater and debris, causing extensive damage to properties and infrastructure. Numerous vehicles parked along the streets were swept away by the rushing waters.
Initial assessments suggest that approximately ten vehicles may have been lost to the flood. The local authorities are actively monitoring the situation.
The overwhelming flow of water and debris has made roads in the vicinity completely impassable. Witnesses reported that the flood's sudden onset, accompanied by thunder and heavy rain, quickly overwhelmed the area. Within moments, the force of the water swept away vehicles and blocked essential transit routes.
Local officials, along with police and emergency response teams, have initiated immediate rescue and relief efforts. Personnel are on-site working to clear debris and locate any missing persons. Residents and visitors in the vicinity have been advised to stay indoors and refrain from traveling until conditions improve.
Reports indicate that several vehicles carried away by the floodwaters have reached the banks of the Sutlej River, resulting in a noticeable increase in the river's water level. Authorities have issued warnings to those living near the riverbanks, urging them to remain alert.
The district administration is closely observing the situation and has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure safety.
