The BCCI has announced the Indian Test team for the tour of England on Saturday. Young batsman Shubman Gill has been given the captaincy of the team for the first time, while wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been appointed as vice -captain. The special thing is that after a long gap, Karun Nair has returned to the team, while young faces like Sai Sudarshan and Abhimanyu Ishwaran have also got a chance. Veteran bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also part of this squad.
Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, while wishing Gill the captain, said, “First of all, Shubman Gill and his family congratulations. It is a matter of pride for Punjab. This is also big news for Rishabh Pant, especially when his IPL was not good.” He informed about Bumrah that Jaspreet himself had turned down the captaincy offer. He also added, “India may not win this series, but it is too early to judge this team. The circumstances will be challenging, but if you play well then victory is also possible.”
Harbhajan Singh appealed to the fans not to make the mistake of assessing the players from this visit. “Every time victory is not necessary, sometimes defeat also teaches a lot. The team is in a phase of change and these young players are going for experience. Shubman will have to give some time to understand as a captain.”
