The Indian Test squad for the upcoming five-match England series was announced on May 24 and there will be a new leader in the scheme of things in the form of . This will make him the 37th player to lead the Indian team in the red-ball format.
It will be a big challenge for the young star batter, especially against a strong and experienced England side. Gill shared his insights on the series and talked about the contributions of India legends , Ravichandran Ashwin, and Rohit Sharma towards the Indian team's success in Test cricket. Gill concluded his statement by saying that the series is going to be tough and assured that the team will be ready for the challenge.
“What is the best way to win the game? Guys like Rohit Bhai, Virat Bhai, and Ashwin Bhai, they have given us a blueprint on how to tour away from home and win matches in series. Yes, it's one thing to be able to deliver and execute, but because we have that blueprint, we know how to turn up away from home and win matches in series. My favourite series that I played was also a five-test match series when England came to India. And I think there's a different essence when you're playing a five-Test match series“, Gill said in a video released by the BCCI.
“It's long, it's mentally and physically very challenging. And I think that's the most exciting part about Test cricket because there are different areas and aspects that it challenges you at. It's not one-dimensional. There's a lot more things that go on in Red Ball cricket. And that's the most exciting thing that I find about Red Ball cricket. And hopefully it's going to be a very exciting time for us. It's not going to be easy, but I think we're ready for any challenge,” the new India Test skipper concluded.
