He completed his early education in Kashmir and then in the 90s he along with his family left Kashmir to settle in Jammu. Later he moved to Mumbai with his family in search of better opportunities. Kunal started his career as a child artist. He first appeared in the 1987 TV series Gul Gulshan Gulfaam. Then he was a part of Mahesh Bhatts film Sir and after this he appeared as a child artist in films like Zakhm Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke Raja Hindustani and Bhai. Even as a child artist Kunal left a lasting impact on the audience. Kunal Kemmus breakthrough came in 2005 with Mohit Suris Kalyug. Mohits sister Smiley Suri was in the lead role with him in this film. The movie was a huge hit. This proved to be a turning point in Kunals career. After Kalyug Kunal featured in movies like Traffic Signal in 2007 then Dhol Superstar Jai Veeru Golmaal 3 and Dhoondhte Reh Jaoge. Along with acting Kunal also tried his hand at direction and directed Madgaon Express in 2024 which received a tremendous response from the audience. He was awarded the IIFA Award for Best Directorial Debut for the film. Coming to Kunals personal life he got married to Soha Ali Khan daughter of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi who belongs to the royal Pataudi family. Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Kemmu have one daughter Inaaya Naumi Kemmu.
