Supreme Court's Approval for Temple Corridor Project

The Supreme Court has authorized the Uttar Pradesh government to advance its plans related to the Shri Banke Bihari Temple corridor in Vrindavan, following a newly enacted ordinance.

In its presentation to the court, the state government clarified that a trust has been assigned the task of constructing the corridor, ensuring that temple funds will not be directly used for this initiative.

The government stated that the trust will oversee all aspects of temple management, indicating that it will not play a direct role in the project.

This legal matter reached the Supreme Court after a sevayat (priest) lodged a petition against the transfer of the temple's substantial Rs 300 crore fund to the state authorities.

In response to these concerns, the Supreme Court has instructed the state government to provide an affidavit outlining the details of the new ordinance. The next court session is set for July 29.

Earlier, on May 15, the Supreme Court permitted the Uttar Pradesh government to utilize the funds from the Shri Banke Bihari Temple for the corridor's development.

The court stipulated that any land acquired for this purpose must be registered in the name of the deity.
