Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Tata Digital is permanently relocating its head office from Fort House in South Mumbai to One International Centre (OIC) in Lower Parel. They are now moving to a three-storeyed office which is a downsizing from Fort House’s six floors, so they will no longer need to pay for utilities at Fort House. These cuts are expected to be done by the end of July, 2025.
Major Rent Savings Expected
As of now, Tata Digital is incurring a cost of approximately Rs 3 crore monthly due to the maintenance of its Fort premises. With the new office at Lower Parel, these costs will be minimized to Rs 1 crore. Therefore, the company will achieve a monthly saving of Rs 2 crore which now adds up to almost Rs 24 crore in annual savings.
Proximity to CEO’s Residence a Factor
Tata Digital’s CEO, Naveen Tahilyani, also resides lower down in Parel, which comes with further decreases in his commuting time and more efficiency. This was also a factor for the relocation.
Flexible Work Location Policy in Place
While the Mumbai office is still the primary and largest hub for the company, Tata Digital maintains flexible policies around employee work locations including remote work and even relocation to other cities, making this an adaptable workplace. This is also helpful in managing the impact of having a smaller office space.
Tech Talent Might Move to Bengaluru
Most of Tata Digital’s technology employees may relocate to Bengaluru to be with their Titan head office aligned under CTO Vinay Vaidya. It also has greater employment prospects and competitors, including Flipkart, Amazon, Swiggy, and Zepto.
Move was Made Possible After Lease Lock-In Expires
In April 2025, Tata Digital’s posh Fort lease was renewed upto April 2027. However, the lock-in period runs until April 2025. This means they are able to leave the location without incurring costs.
Significance of Fort House and Its Heritage
Fort House as the current office of Tata Digital is a heritage structure situated on Mumbai’s historical business district. It houses Videocon’s headquarter and it covers roughly 1.5 lakh square feet. The Dawat-e-Hadiyah trust of the Dawoodi Bohra community purchased the building in 2017.
The Fort region has many government and business offices and exhibits bold architecture from the colonial era.
