Mumbai: In Sanatan Dharma, the Navratri dedicated to Goddess Durga holds immense spiritual and religious importance. Devotees across India observe nine sacred days of intense devotion, worshipping the divine feminine energy, popularly known as Maa Bhavani. It is widely believed that those who worship the Goddess with true devotion during this period are blessed with relief from sorrow and enjoy a life as blissful as heaven on earth.
While the more widely celebrated Navratri festivals take place in the Hindu months of Chaitra (spring) and Ashwin (autumn), there are two additional, lesser-known but highly potent Navratris known as Gupt Navratri, observed in the months of Magh and Ashadha. Unlike the public rituals of the main Navratris that honour the nine forms of Durga, Gupt Navratri is marked by the worship of the ten Mahavidyas—ten powerful and secretive forms of the Goddess—making it a deeply mystical and spiritually charged period for tantric practices and personal transformation.
According to the Vedic Panchang, Ashadha Gupt Navratri will commence on Thursday, 26 June 2025, beginning at 4:00 PM with the Shukla Paksha Pratipada Tithi of the Ashadha month. As per the Udaya Tithi (sunrise-based calculation), the first day of Gupt Navratri fast and puja will also be observed on 26 June.
The auspicious time for Ghatasthapana (kalash installation) on the first day of Gupt Navratri falls between 5:25 AM and 6:58 AM. In addition, Ghatasthapana may also be performed during the Abhijit Muhurat, considered equally auspicious, which will occur between 11:56 AM and 12:52 PM.
Gupt Navratri is a particularly Sacred Among Advanced Spiritual Seekers and Practitioners of Tantra. It is believed this Period, The Ten Mahavidyas – Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Bhairavi, Chhinnamasta, Baglamukhi, Matangi, Matangi, and Kamala Devotees on the path of Inner Awakening and Divine Realization.
Reciting sacred texts such as the Durga Saptashati, Devi Mahatmya, and Shreemad Devi Bhagwat, as well as chanting the 32 names of Devi Shakti, is said to dispel negativity, remove planetary doshas (flaws) in the horoscope, and bring peace, prosperity, and liberation (moksha). Spiritual disciplines undertaken during Gupt Navratri are considered highly effective in fulfilling the four Purusharthas: Dharma (righteousness), Artha (prosperity), Kama (desires), and Moksha (liberation).
