Following Tuesday’s first round of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship at the Hong Kong Golf Club, Ranveer Mitroo led the Indian squad with a remarkable two-under 69, tying for fourth place. A four-person team from the Indian Golf Union (IGU) participated in this esteemed competition.

The 16-year-old Ranveer made birdies on the second and fifth holes of his round before making a bogey on the ninth. On the 16th, after six straight pars, he bogeyed once again. But the 2024 junior India No. 1 showed off his best form by quickly making amends with consecutive birdies on the last two holes, which led to his final score.

Ranveer said, “The round was pretty okay,” after giving it some thought. I made some stupid mistakes, but I also made some excellent recoveries. In order to prevent the errors I made today, my strategy for tomorrow is to get plenty of sleep and examine today’s numbers. I believe I want to concentrate on making better decisions and carrying them out.”

After scoring one over 72, his countryman, Krish Chawla, who is now the junior India No. 1, was tied for 16th place. With an eagle, three birdies, three bogeys, and a triple bogey, Krish had a memorable round. With a six-under 65, Vietnam’s Tuan Anh Nguyen was one stroke clear of Cooper Moore of New Zealand at the top of the standings. With a combined score of one-under 141, Ranveer and Krish finished sixth in the boys’ team tournament. With an overall score of three-under 139, the Australian team of Cooper Giddings and Hamish Farquharson took first place.

In the ladies’ division, Kashika Mishra of Delhi tied for 10th place with a score of one over 73. Saanvi Somu, a teammate, completed Round 1 in a tie for 17th place.

The current No. 1 player for India in both the junior and amateur divisions, Kashika, finished with a total score of three bogeys and a birdie on the back nine after making two birdies and a bogey on the front nine.

After Round 1, the South Korean team of Seojin Park and Yunseo Yang, the Thai duo of Kritchanya Kaopattanaskul and Prim Prachnakorn, and the Indian duo of Kashika and Saanvi were 11 strokes behind the leaders with a total score of four-over 148. At even-par 142, Ranveer and Kashika shared eighth place in the mixed team competition.
