Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has praised Indian icon MS Dhoni as the best skipper in the Indian Premier League’s history. Before leaving his position as captain before the previous season, Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings to five IPL championships. But when Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined by an elbow injury halfway through the current season, he took over again.
Moody ranked Dhoni as his best IPL captain, surpassing even the legendary Rohit Sharma of the Mumbai Indians for the top slot.
Moody gives the CSK legend a better ranking even though Dhoni and Rohit have each won the coveted IPL championship five times as captains.
Because of his many championships and the fact that he has led teams that haven’t been the best in the competition, Moody said, “I think MS Dhoni keeps the No. 1 spot.”
For the first time in their existence, Dhoni’s CSK had a dismal season, placing last in the standings.
Dhoni was also criticized for his unwillingness to climb the order in order to address the batting order’s instability.
The 43-year-old, who scored only 196 runs in 14 innings, seemed to be a ghost of his former self.
Not even Dhoni’s magic as captain could save CSK.
They finished in last place for the first time in IPL history, winning only four games.
When asked to blind rank well-known IPL leaders, Moody’s first choice was former Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Virat Kohli, who led the beloved team to the league final once in 2016 and to the playoffs four times in 2015, 2016, 2020, and 2021.
After doing mental calculations, Moody placed former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir third for leading the team to consecutive IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.
Moody also selected Shreyas Iyer of the Punjab Kings as the fourth-best IPL skipper.
Before joining the PBKS camp, Iyer led KKR to their third IPL championship the previous season.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad captain and fellow countryman Pat Cummins was selected sixth by the Australian veteran.
