Some of the most popular items still puzzle people today, with many scratching their heads as to what the weird features on them are for. From holes in seatbelts to symbols in sun tan lotion and even why measuring tapes have the metal ending, it would seem many everyday items leave people baffled. The humble peg is one such example, with one user blowing internet users away by finally revealing why they have a hole in them.
The British Tiktok user took to the social media site to reveal why clothes pegs have holes in them in a video that has attracted more than one million views. He explained how the small holes made drying clothes on a washing line far more simple.
Taking to his TikTok, the popular social media user who goes by the handle @jpee074, revealed how he hung his laundry up on the washing line thanks to the mysterious hole featured on clothes pegs.
The user showed how the hole is, in fact, supposed to go through the washing line underneath the peg's clamp.
The hidden function of the pegs caused quite a sensation on the internet.
The user posted: "I was today years old when I found out I had been pegging wrong all these years.
"The little holes are for the line!.
"Today years old......Life changing!!!!!"
Other users were quick to comment saying they had not realised the true function of the small holes.
"OMG! I'm 55 and just found out," wrote one user with another adding: "Stop it. I've been doing it wrong all these years?"
Another person echoed the dismay and said: "Are you kidding me? Now I'm even more excited to hang my washing out tomorrow"
The huge influx of comments saw the TikToker reply: "'I can't believe that 300k people will hang their washing differently from now on!"
As for other handy drying tips for clothes, one user suggested: "T-shirts and jumpers on hangers! Jeans and trousers by the belt loops so you don't get marks on the legs from the pegs once they have dried!"
