[Pakistan] Lahore In the first match of the Twenty20 International series, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 37 runs on Wednesday in Lahore thanks to career-best numbers of 5 for 30 from Hasan Ali and an all-around effort from Shadab Khan.
Hasan Ali delivered his first blow in the pursuit of a massive goal of 202 in 20 overs when he dismissed Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon, who was caught at mid-on for 4 in his first over. Tanzid Hasan struck him for two fours in his subsequent over, but the fast bowler returned the favor by hitting him for 31 off 17 balls with a knuckleball.
Towhid Hridoy and Litton Das had put up 63 for the third wicket, but they failed to find the pace that would have been detrimental to Pakistan. In the eleventh over, Shadab Khan dismissed Das for 48 runs off 30 balls. In the next over, Khushdil Shah also got rid of Hridoy. He only hit one four and only made 17 off 22 balls.
Bangladesh continued to lose wickets on a regular basis. Salman Agha, the captain of Pakistan, also dismissed Shamim Hossain for only four runs in the thirteenth over.
In the eighteenth over, Hasan Ali resumed his assault. Bangladesh still needed 61 off 18 balls at 141 for 6. At that moment, Jaker Ali was on 30 off 18 balls, and Bangladesh had little chance thanks to his tremendous hitting. In his second stint, Hasan removed Jaker for 36 from 20 balls after giving up a six with his first legal ball. He got Tanzim caught and bowled for one in the same over.
Hasan dismissed Bangladesh for 164 after completing his five-for in the last over.
Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman came out to open for Pakistan earlier in the first session. Within two overs, however, both openers were back in the dugout. Before being dismissed by Tanzim Hasan Sakib for 31 runs off 18 balls in the seventh over, Mohammad Haris and Salman Agha were on the verge of a 50-run stand for the third wicket.
The batsman reached his fifty in the eleventh over, and Salman continued to go for it. But in the next over, Hasan Mahmud got rid of him for 56 runs. Following Agha, Hasan Nawaz was also removed by Rishad Hossain in the 14th over for 44 runs off only 22 balls, hitting at 200.
Following Nawaz’s dismissal, Pakistan failed to score a boundary for 18 balls. With his occasional off-days, Shamim Hossain was a surprise; in his first T20I match, he got rid of Khushdil Shah in the seventeenth over.
However, in the 18th over, Shadab targeted Rishad and took him for a 6,6,4 sequence. In the last over, Shadab hit two more fours off Shoriful. Pakistan reached 200 thanks in large part to Shadab’s strikes.
Pakistan scored 201/7 in 20 overs, with Shadab Khan scoring 48, Salman Agha scoring 56, and Shoriful Islam scoring 2-32. 164/10 vs Bangladesh in 19.2 (Hasan Ali 5-30, Jaker Ali 36, Litton Das 48).
