Wroclaw, thanks to a fantastic second-half performance by Cole Palmer, Chelsea defeated Real Betis 4-1 in Stadion Wroclaw in Poland, becoming the first team in history to win all five European club titles.
After two UEFA Champions League titles, two UEFA Europa League titles, two UEFA Super Cup titles, and two in the now-defunct UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, this is Chelsea’s first Conference League victory.
Chelsea’s 42 goals this season (from the league phase forward) set a record for the tournament, surpassing Fiorentina’s 37 goals from the 2022–2023 campaign.
Betis was rewarded for their efforts to disrupt Chelsea’s play high up the field. Abdessamad Ezzalzouli took a touch before launching a low shot into the bottom corner of Filip Jørgensen’s goal after nine minutes as Isco dragged the ball across the area for him.
A few minutes later, the busy Ezzalzouli fought his way into the box to set up Benoît Badiashile, who made a vital diving interception to block a Johnny Cardoso effort. The goalkeeper was at full stretch to deny Marc Bartra as the Betis No5 attempted to catch him off balance with a long-range shot, according to UEFA.
Chelsea was up 65 percent at halftime according to possession statistics, but Enzo Maresca’s team had produced few real opportunities, with extended Betis legs consistently blocking their approach play. After 53 minutes, a limping Ezzalzouli was substituted, captain Reece James entered the game, and suddenly Betis was being pushed off the ball and seemed to be a team that had not maintained a clean sheet in their previous 11 games.
On 65 minutes, Enzo Fernández nodded the equalizer past the exposed Adrián after James hammered a shot straight at defender Natan as Betis struggled to clear a corner. Five minutes later, Palmer provided another incredible assist, turning a defender and lifting a ball across the box for Nicolas Jackson to force in at the near post. Manuel Pellegrini’s team showed no signs of slowing down.
Throughout, there was a wall of green noise, and despite Betis’ supporters’ best efforts to re-energize their team, there was no turning back. The masked Moises Caicedo made it 4-1 in extra time with a low drive from the outside of the box after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had selected fellow replacement Jadon Sancho, who delicately curled the ball in from an angle.
