Despite the current tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam assault, the Punjab Police said on Wednesday that the upcoming Indian Premier League’s Qualifier 1 and Eliminator matches are anticipated to go ahead without any security concerns.
After the competition was halted for a week because of the armed confrontation between the two nations, the IPL schedule was changed.
According to the updated schedule, Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will be conducted in Mullanpur on Thursday and Friday, respectively, while Qualifier 2 and the Final will take place in Ahmedabad on June 1 and June 3, respectively.
“Tomorrow and the day after, Mullanpur Stadium will host two crucial games. There is an eliminator as well as a qualification. “There is a lot of enthusiasm and people are coming from all over India,” said Arpit Shukla, Punjab’s Special DGP (Law and Order).
“We’ve set up a lot of security around the stadium and its surroundings. We went over the arrangements today. Our police force consists of over 2,500 policemen, including around 65 Gazetted officers.
“Strict security measures will be used to guarantee that participants do not encounter any difficulties. We rehearsed the fake exercise yesterday, and the police force is practicing once again today,” he said.
In an effort to improve disaster readiness after the clash with Pakistan earlier this month, India is scheduled to hold fresh civil defense mock exercises in many states on Thursday. Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir will host the drills.
Just hours before the start of Operation Sindoor, earlier this month, India conducted its first simulated exercise since 1971.
