The Mumbai police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Special Investigation Team (SIT) interrogated actor Dino Morea and his brother Santino Morea for more than five hours on Wednesday in relation to the ongoing Mithi River desilting scandal.

At around 12:45 p.m., the brothers drove up in a black sedan with masks over their faces to the commissioner of police’s office. After being questioned, they departed the building at about 6:45 p.m. The brothers refused to comment when many members of the media tried to contact them. The SIT has found important clues, including money transactions between Dino Morea and the primary defendants, Ketan Kadam and Jayesh Joshi, according to a senior official involved in the inquiry.

Two of the main suspects among the 13 individuals detained so far are Jayesh Joshi of Virgo Specialities Pvt Ltd, a business that reportedly provided silt-pusher machines and other equipment to contractors engaged in the desilting process, and Ketan Kadam, a middleman and director of Woder India LLP.

The EOW is looking into whether the money that Kadam received from these contractors was later moved to Dino Morea’s bank account. A forensic examination of 20 to 22 bank accounts is being conducted as part of the investigation, with a particular emphasis on transactions connected to the alleged fraud.

According to a senior EOW official, “it is premature to comment on this matter as the forensic audit report is awaited.” In the days ahead, other people connected to the anomalies are anticipated to be called in for interrogation. The accused reportedly arranged for BMC officials and their families to go abroad in order to carry out the multi-crore fraud in return for preferential treatment when desilting contracts were awarded.

EOW sources claim that Ketan Kadam paid for BMC Assistant Engineer Prashant Ramgude’s foreign trip, which included airfare and opulent hotel accommodations. According to reports, Kadam secured hotel reservations for Ramgude and his family for a day excursion to Singapore at the InterContinental Singapore. A trip to Dubai was also planned, and Kadam was once again in charge of making hotel reservations. From Kadam, police have retrieved comprehensive records of these transactions.

The investigation has so far included the questioning of three municipal personnel. Investigators have legally sought certain records from the municipal corporation, but they are still waiting. “Dino Morea may be called in again for further questioning if required,” the officer said.
