Due to a serious tendon injury in her right hamstring, former England captain Heather Knight will miss The Hundred and home international cricket in 2025. She sustained this injury last week while playing the game-winning game against the West Indies.

Knight helped the side win the series 3-0 with an undefeated 66 off 47 balls in Monday’s third Twenty20 International at Chelmsford. She did not take part in the fielding during the second half of the game, however, since she was clearly struggling with her hamstring strain towards the conclusion of her innings.

She will thus be out for the rest of the international summer. This includes the Women’s Hundred in August, the home series against India in June and July, and the current ODI series against the West Indies.

Knight’s right hamstring has serious tendon damage, according to an MRI scan, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stated in a statement. They also said that Knight would be evaluated further by the England Women’s medical staff in order to decide on the course of treatment. It is hoped that she will be eligible for selection in the ICC Women’s World Cup in September 2025, even though no comeback date has been scheduled.

Knight has been replaced in England’s ODI team by Alice Capsey. During the T20I series against the West Indies, which was also played at Chelmsford, Capsey only managed four runs in her lone innings.

“Unfortunately, I’ve damaged my right hamstring tendon pretty badly and I’ll miss the rest of the international summer and The Hundred, but I’ve got the World Cup in my sights,” Knight said on Instagram, expressing her regret. I’m devastated; the timing isn’t ideal, but I’ll do all in my power to return as soon as possible. I’ve been here before, and I’ll tackle this like I have all the difficulties I’ve faced in my professional life.”

For England, who are now rebuilding under their new captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, replacing Knight’s wealth of experience will be difficult. After Knight served as captain for nine years, Sciver-Brunt took over in April.

The first major milestone in England’s new era under head coach Charlotte Edwards is the forthcoming World Cup in India. The competition starts on September 29 and ends at Mullanpur on October 26.
