The Karnataka government has decided to implement a task force aimed at preventing communal violence with immediate effect. This announcement was made by Home Minister G. Parameshwara following a series of violent murders in the coastal and central districts in recent weeks. Parameshwara emphasized that the government is taking the recent murder of Abdul Rahim, also known as Imtiaz, very seriously and will take prompt action to prevent any recurrence of communal violence.

He informed the media that the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Shivamogga have been identified as sensitive areas.

He stated, "We will act without delay. If such incidents continue, we cannot remain silent. We will tighten the law." He mentioned that an official order for the formation of the communal violence prevention task force had already been issued following previous incidents, and the government is now committed to reviewing and implementing the task force immediately. The responsibility for taking action in this regard will fall on the state's Director General of Police.

The Home Minister also noted that the government will consider Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Shivamogga districts as sensitive regions. The government is determined to act swiftly to curb communal violence. Dr. Parameshwara further announced that half of the personnel currently working in the anti-Naxal task force will be reassigned to the newly active communal violence prevention task force. He assured that they would be granted the necessary powers and privileges, with a focus on the three districts.
